Applications

Advantech’s SBR-75 Demodulator is designed to operate as a high speed DVB-S2 Data Broadcast Receiver for embedded use in broadband satellite communications, with audio/video/data applications such as the distribution of financial and security information, Internet and Intranet multimedia, WEB access, mirror site refresh, audio/video broadcast.

Overview

For all data broadcast applications, this fully featured Demodulator offers unrivalled flexibility supporting DVB-S2 LDPC coded data rates of up to 110 Mbps in a 36 MHz channel using 16APSK (80 Mbps in a 36 MHz channel using 8PSK). The card supports both the SHORT FEC frame and the NORMAL FEC frame. The SHORT frame is particularly useful to minimize latency in low data rate contribution applications. This card can also be specified with DVB-S and DVB-DSNG Pragmatic Trellis decoding allowing the demodulation of existing QPSK, 8PSK and 16QAM DVB-S and DVBDSNG PTCM signals. When used in DVB-S2 modes the card offers performance gains of up to 2.5dB compared to older DVB-S systems. This can be translated to approximately a 25% capacity increase in a given transponder bandwidth. This performance gain can be used to either increase the data throughput via a given Satellite bandwidth, therefore significantly reducing transponder costs, to provide more link margin or even to reduce antenna size.

Overview cont.

The SBR-75 has been designed to support future upgrades to enhance performance by including support for Variable Coding Modulation (VCM) and Adaptive Coding Modulation (ACM). To this end the card has been designed to include an optional second ASI output and multiple TS outputs via the rear 96pin connector. Standard output interfaces are DVB ASI (Asynchronous Serial Interface) and TTL byte wide clock and data. The monitor and control ports provide access to a command line interface via RS232 and 10BaseT Ethernet, and web service control is available. SNMP control will be a future software upgrade. The SBR-75 Demodulator is a low-profile, embeddable card in a compact format. A companion product to the SBR-75 Demodulator is the AMT-75, which provides the same functionality in a 1U 19” rack mount chassis and can also include a modulator. The SBR-75 Demodulator is one of a new range of modem/FEC modules targeted at a variety of digital communications applications such as terrestrial point-to-point, broadband wireless access, broadband satellite and video transmissions.
